About Aldermore Bank…

Aldermore is a British bank providing award-winning savings, mortgages and commercial finance to Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), homeowners and savers. Operating with modern, scalable and legacy free infrastructure, Aldermore has no branch network but serves customers and intermediary partners online, by phone and face to face through its network of twelve regional offices located around the UK.

Established in 2009, the Bank has grown significantly and now has over 800 employees. At the end of June 2014, lending to customers stood at £4 billion, customer deposits totalled £3.9 billion and the Bank delivered a pre-tax profit of £18.6 million for the first half of 2014.

Following the initial implementation of their SharePoint 2010 Intranet, Aldermore identified the requirement to refresh content and update the look and feel of their intranet – with a key goal of maximizing user adoption and providing a “one stop shop” for employees to find bank news and information, fostering cross organizational communication and collaboration.

Aldermore required a high caliber, experienced SharePoint partner who could enhance their existing intranet solution today, as well as in the future.

Aldermore had three main requirements:

  1. To re-design the existing intranet home page to provide a best in class news site that reflects their brand style guidelines yet injects a ‘wow factor’ to instantly impress visitors and encourage adoption.
  2. The homepage must be easy to update and maintain enabling content to be refreshed regularly.
  3. The ability to flexibly and quickly add additional features, functions and content through the support of a responsive SharePoint partner.

Aldermore’s existing environment was Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 Standard – they were very keen for the technical solution to utilise as much out of the box functionality as possible. Re-usability of branding designs was key (applicable to any SharePoint environment including Business Intelligence and MySites), and for the deployment package to be compatible with SharePoint 2013.
slicedbread approached this project pragmatically, starting with the information architecture design and creative concepts. Once the creative concept was selected, slicedbread commenced work implementing the designs and creating the menu components, web parts and page templates.

Because the previous solution was all hard coded, updating the branding wasn’t a straightforward task. slicedbread spent a lot of time unravelling Aldermore’s existing Intranet to create a much more flexible solution for Aldermore.

Benefits

Aldermore now has an intranet that has visually been brought up to date with their company brand guidelines. The new Intranet is easily updated by the content administrators ensuring content is kept fresh, which encourages their employees to return to and engage with the Intranet.

The Intranet encourages internal collaboration and new sharing with the integration of social web parts such as Yammer & Twitter along with News carousels.
